If you have never had an eye examination, then now is the best time to start. Regular eye tests are important to pick up conditions that can easily be prevented. At Westmead Eyes Optometrists we offer comprehensive bulk billed eye tests in Westmead (near Paramatta), Sydney.
Eye Tests at Westmead Eyes
Our comprehensive eye examinations include a thorough eye health assessment and determination if correction is needed for your specific visual needs. We believe that it’s important to take the time to get to know you so we don’t rush through our examinations. Your initial eye test takes approximately 30 minutes, and we use the latest technology necessary to complete these exams so we can have you seeing at your best.
Bulk Billed Eye Examinations
We bulk-bill eye tests for all patients. There may be extra out of pocket expenses for additional tests that do not attract a Medicare rebate. You will be advised of the cost if this is the case.

Dilated Eye Examinations
In some cases, a dilated examination is required for us to get a better view into the back of the eye. This requires eye drops and may be completed as part of the initial examination or at a subsequent visit. Sunglasses and an alternative driver are recommended following a dilated eye test.
What are the things that are checked during a comprehensive eye examination?
The two major things we do during an eye examination is to measure your vision checking for refractive errors such as short sightedness (myopia) long sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. The second is to check your eye health in detail.
Did you know that Optometrists can often pick up signs of:
- High blood pressure
- Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Sleep disturbances
- Stroke
Signs of these conditions can be detected during careful examination of your eyes.
Our comprehensive eye tests also screen for and diagnose common ocular health problems like:
- Corneal Disease / Foreign Bodies
- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Diabetic & Hypertensive Retinopathy
- Glaucoma
- Ocular Tumors
- Central Retinal Vein/Artery Occlusion
- Computer Screen Problems
- Vision Problems Affecting Learning
Communicating relevant findings to your GP or specialist doctor is also part of our strategy in achieving the best outcomes for you.
