Who Can Wear Contact Lenses?
There are many great visual and lifestyle benefits of contact lenses. If you have been told you can’t wear contact lenses in the past then please ask us! Prescription contact lenses can open up a whole new world for you. Contact lens wear is a great alternative to wearing glasses and age is not a barrier to contact lens wear.
Contact Lens Technology
Advances in technology and improvements in contact lens materials mean that they are now more comfortable and provide stable vision than in the past. There are many options available in contact lenses, including multifocal lenses, daily disposable lenses (which can be worn occasionally for sport and special events, or every day) and lenses that can be worn continuously (day and night) for up to 30 days. Coloured lenses are also an option if you would like to change your eye colour for that special occasion. Custom made contact lenses are available for patients with particular eye needs, to maximise their vision, eye health and comfort.
Learning to Wear Contact Lenses
First you’ll need to be tested to see if you’re a candidate for contact lens wear. We will assess your eyes to find the best lenses to suit your individual needs. If you’re a first time wearer, we will guide you a fitting process to ensure that the lenses are comfortable. You will be taught how to insert and remove them yourself and about lens hygiene and care. It’s important to make sure that your eyes remain in good health and that your prescription contact lenses remain a comfortable and appropriate fit. We will go through this with you at your regular follow-up appointments.
