Orthokeratology (ortho-k) is a non-surgical, overnight vision correction treatment that gently reshapes the cornea while you sleep, allowing for clear vision throughout the day without the need for glasses or contact lenses. While ortho-k is commonly used in children to help slow myopia progression, it’s also a fantastic option for adults looking for freedom from glasses.
Today, we highlight a case that demonstrates the effectiveness of ortho-k in an older patient, proving that age is no barrier to clear vision.
This is the story of an 80-year-old patient who came to us highly motivated to try ortho-k. With a prescription of R -3.00D and L -3.50D, along with presbyopia, he was looking for a solution that would allow him to see clearly at a distance without glasses. We designed a customised ortho-k correction incorporating a slight multifocal design to provide functional near vision, enabling him to use his computer without additional glasses.

The results have been outstanding. Our patient now enjoys clear vision throughout the day and can drive without glasses—an incredible outcome that has significantly improved his quality of life. This case is particularly special as he is our oldest ortho-k patient fitted to date, demonstrating that ortho-k is not just for children and teenagers.
Ortho-k remains a valuable option for individuals of all ages who seek a non-surgical solution to their refractive error.
